Changelog
A record of the site's development.
The register records works and their relations. The changelog records the reasoning behind the site that presents the register: what changed, when, and why.
Entries are ordered newest first. Substantive revisions — a change to a principle, a correction of public record, a design decision — may also be recorded as works in the register. Routine changes are recorded here and preserved within the next snapshot of the site.
003 10 October 2026 — Data integrity, accessibility, and prose corrections
Data integrity audit
The SHA-256 hashes recorded in works.json for held works
had been truncated to 48–50 characters. The attestation workflow had
rejected the malformed values and recorded zero hashes
on-chain. All held hashes have been recomputed from the pinned files
and are now complete 64-character digests. Where the on-chain
attestation records a zero hash, that state is preserved; the
catalogue value is distinguished from what was attested and the
discrepancy is recorded for future reconciliation.
The edition record (site-001) now separates four
distinct fields: uri (the mutable IPNS address),
snapshotUri (the pinned CAR file CID),
rootCid (the unpacked directory CID), and
contentHash (the CAR file's SHA-256).
revision-001 records the correct hash for the pinned
file. An earlier value referred to an unpinned draft and has been
superseded.
Cluster membership made explicit
Added a cluster field to every record in
works.json. Previously the application inferred cluster
membership from the URI namespace, which failed for works with
external or non-namespace URIs. Cluster pages, contributor lists,
and filters now use the explicit field.
Escaping, validation, and accessibility
All user-facing strings rendered by script.js are now
escaped before insertion into the DOM. A safeUrl()
helper validates link targets and rejects unsafe schemes. This was
a prerequisite for opening the site to external attestations.
Mobile navigation on the main site now uses a button with
aria-expanded and aria-controls, replacing
the CSS checkbox pattern that was inaccessible to keyboard and
screen-reader users. The same pattern is generated in the cluster
starter pages, with an inline script.
Reduced-motion preferences are honoured by scroll behaviour and pagination. Focus is preserved across cluster-chip re-renders. Each page that lacked a top-level heading now has one.
Wizard corrections
Generated cluster pages are described as starter files rather than as live register clients. Generating files no longer promises automatic directory inclusion or automatic register display; both are manual processes. The contact field is rendered independently of the optional call. Added ENS validation, clipboard-failure handling, and a commitment statement shown before submission.
Prose corrections
Across the Ethos, Structure, Index, BLACKBOX, About, and cluster pages, claims that overstated the implemented system have been narrowed:
- "No permission is required" — revised to a contributor's declaration of non-enforcement over their own work.
- "Held by no one, cannot be enclosed" — revised to independently inspectable; no single platform controls what the record shows.
- "The chain is the source of truth" — revised to the chain is the reference for what was attested; the catalogue is maintained separately and not automatically reconciled.
- The closing "cannot be enclosed" claim on Structure — replaced with a description of visible dependencies and transferable stewardship.
- CC0 — described as a public-domain dedication and waiver instrument rather than as a licence.
- "No Rights" propagation — clarified: the declaration binds what a contributor attests, not what they cite.
- The register's non-discretionary recording — reconciled with EO1's substantive participation commitment.
Schema UID correction
The About page cited 0xd9b9e9… for the base schema.
Corrected to 0x11cc31…, matching the schema under which
the attestations were made.
Demonstration records labelled
Records that are fictional or illustrative (for example
src-002, "Untitled notebook fragment") carry a
recordClass: "demonstration" field, displayed in the
register and cluster views.
Stewardship wording
The cluster operations block distinguishes three things that were previously conflated: the code (open, redeployable), the domain and hosting account (held by the named steward, transferable), and the attestations (on-chain, independently inspectable). The claim that pinning guarantees availability has been corrected to "remains retrievable while the steward continues to pin".
002 22 September 2026 — On-chain attestations
On-chain attestations
All works in the register were attested on Celo using the Ethereum
Attestation Service. Each entry in works.json carries an
attestationUID, and every expanded entry on the site
renders a link to EASScan.
Schema UID: 0x11cc3123d51989b3298a0b65e01d4b54ab920e375056b9e08fbe524a50876b63
Chain: Celo mainnet
EAS contract: 0x72E1d8ccf5299fb36fEfD8CC4394B8ef7e98Af92
Attestations completed: 19 sources, 2 interim, 1 iteration, 1 edition, 1 revision. Total 24.
Hash status field
Added a hashStatus field to every entry in
works.json. Values are held (a pinned copy with
a computed hash), referenced (hosted elsewhere, canonical
link only), and absent (no file — a fragment, a cluster
definition, a text-only entry). The distinction is displayed on every
expanded entry as a badge.
Source pinning
The commoning cluster asks the steward of the site to pin public domain sources as a courtesy, so that they remain retrievable while the steward continues to pin them. The decision is the cluster's; the holding is the steward's. The register records the canonical reference; the pin is supplementary.
Stewardship and legal position made explicit
Added a section to every cluster page distinguishing the register, the steward, and the cluster as three separate parties. The register records relations and hosts nothing. The steward holds the infrastructure and bears the legal obligations. The cluster decides what it wishes to attest and request.
The steward is named: Amy Kellam, resident in England and Wales. A route for legal notice is provided via the contact page.
GDPR note
The contact form carries a short notice stating what data is collected, how it is transmitted, and how to request deletion. No cookies, no analytics, no third-party sharing.
Commoning cluster intro revised
Removed the reference to a "planned" on-chain schema. The schema is registered and the attestations are live. The cluster's inquiry is stated in the intro, and the closing line now reads: "Recording the site in the register commits it to the commons on the same terms as the works it holds."
001 21 September 2026 — The Rule, clusters, and the wizard
The Rule is not a licence to harm
Added as a fifth position under principle 07 on the Structure page, as the final rule of the commoning cluster, and in section 1 of the cluster-start instructions. The Rule's renunciation of property rights is not a renunciation of responsibility. Contributions are declared lawful to make, hold, and circulate. The steward does not knowingly host unlawful material, and reports it where the law requires.
The umbrella field
Added an umbrella field to the cluster definitions. Each
cluster page now names the collective the cluster belongs to. The
commoning and amicus clusters both read as EO1 projects. A cluster
belonging to a different collective would name that collective
instead, or omit the field entirely.
Cluster restructuring
Removed eight fabricated works from the afterlives cluster. Renamed the cluster to amicus, stripped to its real content: the call, the timeline, and the status. Added commoning as the second cluster, carrying the site itself as its edition. Removed the umbra cluster entirely.
Cluster pages
Renamed eo1cluster-afterlives.html to
eo1cluster-amicus.html. Created
eo1cluster-commoning.html. Updated
initCluster to render an honest empty state for clusters
with no works yet.
The wizard
Added START-HERE.txt as the first output file. It states
the commitment to the Rule, the no-harm limit, and the deployment
instructions, in that order. The cluster name is substituted into
the file at download time.
Added the cluster avatar. A placeholder mark is drawn by
cluster.css and appears on every cluster page by
default. A cluster can replace it with its own image. The commoning
cluster uses a custom mark.
Register changes
Added src-016 (Locke), src-017 (the
collective's statement), src-018 (the amicus cluster),
src-019 (The Absolute), and src-020 (the
pirate articles). Consolidated the Nāgārjuna source into a single
entry (src-013, Stephen Batchelor translation, CC
BY-NC-SA 3.0) and removed the duplicate. Contributor order set to
last name alphabetical, with two exceptions: translated works list
author before translator, and organisational contributors follow
individual ones.
Added log-001, personal-log-001,
note-001, and site-001 under the
commoning cluster. Added revision-001 as the interim
work recording this changelog.
